In Arcidosso, a precious hall of ancient weapons that tell the story of various cultures, from the Middle Ages to the early 1900s

On the second floor of the Aldobrandesco Castle, walking along the gallery we find the “Museum of Arms”, a private collection donated to the Municipality of Arcidosso by former marshal Emo Mecheroni. It includes a precious hall of ancient weapons, which tell the story of various cultures, societies, populations, from the Middle Ages to the early 1900s.

175 pieces are on display: 164 shooting and cutting weapons belonging to various eras and cultures, 10 helmets of different shapes and origins and a sword stick. The museum houses different types of melee weapons used in the period from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance and muzzle-loading firearms belonging to the Napoleonic and Garibaldian armies.

In addition, an interesting section shows exotic weapons, mainly from Africa, North Africa and India.
Pieces that have all been cataloged by the collector and are now displayed in special showcases with accompanying explanatory panels.

Recently acquired (2020), the collection was judged by experts at the Stibbert Museum in Florence to be of great value for rarity, value and historical importance.
