For the first time in 121 years, the race will start from Italy. Appointment on June 29, in Florence!

The 111th edition of the Tour de France brings with it a historic event, actually three: the departure for the first time from Italy, for the first time from Florence, for the first time from a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On June 29, the historic competition will start from Florence, with a route from the Cascine (the "Grand Depart" headquarters will be set up at the Teatro del Maggio) to Piazza della Signoria, where the ribbon-cutting and institutional start is scheduled. The teams will then parade through the historic center of the city, symbol of the Renaissance, among world-famous monuments.

The municipalities involved in the passage of the first stage of the Tour, from Florence to Rimini, are Bagno a Ripoli, Pontassieve, Pelago, Rufina, Dicomano, San Godenzo. Passing then through the Tre Faggi Pass, the caravan will head to Romagna.

The Grand Départ of Florence will pass symbolically in front of the Gino Bartali Cycling Museum in Ponte a Ema, birthplace of the champion, winner of 3 Giro d'Italia and 2 Tour de France.

Among the approaching stages to this highly anticipated day:

  • March 21
Florence will be painted yellow for a big event, as a digital countdown begins 100 days before the start, in Piazza della Repubblica
  • June 27
Presentation of the teams in Piazzale Michelangelo
