Amidst the Apennine mountains lies an artificial reservoir at more than 1000m above sea level, where the clear waters of the Enza river are surrounded by lush woods and mountains

Lago Paduli is a small body of water surrounded by lush mountain forests and enclosed in the embrace of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Located in Comano in the province of Massa Carrara, the lake is a sort of outpost on the Tuscan border: it’s just a short distance from the Lagastrello Pass, the mountain pass that allows entrance to Lunigiana. For this reason, the lake is also known as ‘Lagastrello’.

Of artificial origin, Lago Paduli is about 1157m above sea level; it was formed rather recently, due to the construction of the dam on the Enza river that was built in the early 1900s with the aim of ensuring electricity production.

You can reach the reservoir by car and then by walking along a path. The entire wooded area is criss-crossed by a network of paths that are suitable for excursions, which also makes it possible to follow a circular route around the perimeter of the lake.

Appealing all year round, Lago Paduli - part of the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park - preserves the tranquility that's  ypical of mountain areas, where animals graze freely and it’s easy to find horses roaming in the wild. In autumn, the thousands of colours of the trees make it an ideal place to admire the fall foliage, the exciting spectacle of the leaves as they take on warm shades of yellow, red and orange.
