A contemporary art collection with installations by international artists

Among the Chianti Classico vineyards in the Gaiole area stands the Castle of Ama, now a famous winery, which houses a private collection of contemporary art. Here art and wine combine perfectly, offering visitors an enveloping experience.

The collection was established in 1999 in collaboration with Galleria Continua and each year is enriched with a new work of contemporary art, thanks to site-specific installations by artists from around the world. In fact, each artist is asked to create a work that is in synch with the spirit of the place and the ancient village of Ama.

The installations are created by the artists directly in situ and can be found in the cellars, chapels, cobblestone streets, as well as in the estate's green spaces. A long list of international artists have conceived and created installations to enrich the beauty of the place with their art: there is Michelangelo Pistoletto with "L’Albero di Ama" (The Tree of Ama) at the entrance to the cellars, there is Daniel Buren with "Sulle vigne punti di vista" (On the Vineyards Viewpoints), a 25-meter wall covered with a mirrored surface on the Chianti hills, and there is Hiroshi Sugimoto with "Confession of Zero" inside the small 18th-century chapel.

The Castello di Ama Contemporary Art Collection can be visited by appointment.
