An exhibition path through history

The Archaeological Museum of Gonfienti is located in Campi Bisenzio, on the ground floor of the Rocca Strozzi monumental complex and houses finds rediscovered in the archaeological area of Gonfienti.

There are three sections that articulate the museum exhibition, and they are arranged according to a chronological criterion: Bronze Age, Etruscan Age and Roman Age.

A large panel on the history of Rocca Strozzi is placed at the entrance; proceeding along an information gallery, there are didactic totems on the Bronze Age and a large introductory panel on the excavation of the Archaeological Area in Gonfienti.

From the gallery, it is possible to descend to the actual exhibition hall that houses ceramic finds attesting the daily activities of the Bronze Age settlement, such as food preparation, consumption, and storage, as well as various spinning and weaving tools.

The Room of the Etruscan Age
The Room of the Etruscan Age

The room of the Etruscan age is located in the former wine cellar, where the finds are preserved in an evocative setting: thanks to the discovery of numerous pantiles and tiles, it was possible to reconstruct inside the museum, a portion of the roof of a large Etruscan residential building. A truly unique environment that gives the sensation of walking through the centuries: a large single display case, in fact, recomposes the commercial and everyday spaces of the ancient dwelling.

The room of the Roman age is dedicated to the road system and houses a small testimony of fragments from the first century B.C., in an area located near the route of the ancient Via Cassia Clodia, at the point where the ancient map showing the roadways of the Roman Empire, called Tabula Peutingeriana, records the presence of the service station at Solaria.

The museum is fully accessible to people with mobility disabilities and tactile paths are available upon reservation. There are QR codes along the exhibition path with both Italian and English audio guide that can be downloaded from the application.
